Proton's new electric car production plant in Tanjung Malim will start operations this September. Currently, the construction of the factory is 90.4% complete with equipment installation already 83.5% complete. The factory was successfully built quickly with a groundbreaking ceremony held in February.

When it starts operations, the factory will first produce the e.MAS 7 before also producing the e.MAS 5. The factory will produce vehicles using the Global Modular Architecture (GMA) platform. Proton previously showed plans to offer 5 EV and PHEV models using the GMA platform.

The factory floor space is designed to facilitate increased production scale and the introduction of new models in the future. In the initial stage, it will produce up to 20,000 EVs per year before increasing to 45,000 per year.
