Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) today announced its financial performance for the first half of the financial year ending 30 June 2025, demonstrating a number of TNB's achievements in continuing to develop the country and support the community.
Tenaga Nasional Berhad is focused on its main strategy to date, which is to ensure that Malaysians continue to enjoy a stable, safe and reliable electricity supply. Apart from TNB's financial strength, they are also focused on contributing to the community, as well as a reliable supply that is an important foundation in supporting households, industries and national growth.
In parallel, TNB has also made a number of high investments in related projects. In the first half of 2025 alone, TNB has invested RM5.2 billion in meeting demand growth, security of supply and energy transition.
TNB also shared that on 28 May 2025, they recorded a new maximum demand record of 21,049MW. TNB’s Average System Outage Duration Index also recorded an improvement to 23.56 minutes per customer in the first half of 2025, compared to 23.92 minutes last year.
TNB recorded a return of RM2.2 billion, supported by strong demand, operational efficiency and prudent financial management. This was also contributed by a foreign exchange translation gain of RM350.6 million, mainly due to the strengthening of the ringgit, from RM4.47/USD in December 2024 to RM4.21/USD in June 2025. This stable performance has enabled the Board of Directors to declare an interim dividend of 25 sen per share, in line with the company’s dividend policy.
TNB also estimates a return of RM1.5 billion in the form of dividends to shareholders, of which almost 60% will be channeled to government-linked investment institutions such as EPF, Khazanah, PNB and KWAP.
Not only that, TNB also implemented a number of initiatives and programmes in preparing the country for the future. One of them is the introduction of Artificial Intelligence (AI) starting September 2025 at UNITEN.
TNB has also strengthened its social impact through zakat assistance, with RM5.4 million channeled to more than 21,500 asnaf recipients. This assistance includes housing projects under the Baiti Jannati Project, home repairs and rewiring, assistance to the poor and needy groups, as well as support for Fisabilillah purposes such as mosque and surau improvements, assistance to tahfiz institutions and other welfare initiatives.
In addition, TNB has also spent RM99.7 million on community initiative programs, including educational support assistance, educational welfare, community service contributions, healthcare initiatives, disaster relief, sports development, green energy islands, and also popularizing solar:
Educational Support: Through assistance totaling RM64.3 million channeled through UNITEN and Yayasan Tenaga Nasional (YTN), a total of 1,515 students nationwide were able to continue their studies, thus opening up opportunities for future talents as well as contributing to Malaysia's long-term human capital development.
Educational Welfare: A total of RM3 million was distributed to 276 underprivileged students and 50 schools under the TNB Adoption School Programme.
Community Service Contributions: A total of RM2.5 million was distributed by TNB to 93,000 recipients in the form of food assistance, community events and religious programmes.
Healthcare Initiatives: Approximately RM335,000 was allocated by TNB to programmes that benefited around 2,710 individuals. This included the provision of equipment to the Cheras Rehabilitation Hospital and the USM Specialist Hospital, patient support at the Sultan Zainal Abidin Hospital as well as initiatives by the Women's Cancer Care and Support Organisation and World Cancer Day 2025.
Disaster Relief: RM541,250 was distributed to assist 3,156 individuals affected by floods and storms in several states as well as Palestinian refugees.
Sports Development: To foster excellence in national sports, more than RM4.8 million was distributed for the development of hockey. Contributions to the Malaysian Hockey Confederation, training clinics and equipment provision have impacted nearly 15,750 athletes and fans.
Pulau Tenaga Hijau (PTH): An investment of RM360,513 was channeled for the installation of solar roofs at SK Pulau Redang and Masjid Kg Baru Pulau Redang, directly benefiting 723 individuals. This initiative supports the use of cleaner energy in schools and places of worship, while also fostering sustainability awareness in the island community.
Merakyatkan Solar: A total of RM2.17 million has been allocated for the implementation of solar panel projects on rooftops and solar-powered street lights at high-impact community sites including Anjung Kasih Hospital, houses of worship, island villages, rural schools and education hubs.
Not only that, TNB in July 2025 was also named the second strongest utility brand in the world, and also the number one utility brand in ASEAN. Moving forward, these various efforts are in efforts to encompass grid reliability, transition to clean energy, financial discipline and community-focused initiatives, overall.
