China Orders Local Companies to Stop Ordering NVIDIA RTX Pro 6000D Chips

The NVIDIA RTX Pro 6000D chip is a successor to the NVIDIA H20 specifically for the Chinese market. Yesterday, the Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC) ordered local companies to stop testing the RTX Pro 6000D and not order it from NVIDIA, according to a Financial Times report.

The order comes after the CAC previously recommended that local companies stop using the H20 chip and replace it with a domestically produced artificial intelligence (AI) chip. The reason given was that the chip may contain backdoors and malware that spy on America.

The order was issued due to the unresolved trade war between China and the United States. It is another pressure on the Trump administration, which has imposed high tariffs on China.

Although testing of the NVIDIA RTX Pro 6000D has begun, NVIDIA itself has not yet received permission to sell it to China. But with NVIDIA and AMD agreeing to give the US government a 15% cut of the sales of AI chips, permission to sell it is believed to be forthcoming.
