Yesterday we reported on the short animated series Misteri Di Sebalik Order published by TV3 on TikTok, which was generated entirely using artificial intelligence (AI). Based on the comments left, the majority of readers gave a very negative reaction. Although the use of generative AI to produce series and films has received criticism, OpenAI has collaborated with Vertigo Films and Native Foreign to produce an animated film that is generated entirely using AI.
The animated film Critterz is based on a short animation produced by Chad Nelson two years ago using DALL-E's generative AI and then reproduced using Sora. For his efforts, Nelson was hired by OpenAI to develop generative AI that can be used for full-length film production.
The process of producing this film is expected to take 9 months, require only 30 animators and cost $30 million. It not only requires a shorter production period but also costs much less. The animated film Frozen, in comparison, took 4 years, used thousands of workers and cost $140 million.
Human actors will be cast to voice the characters, with a script written by those involved in the making of Paddington in Peru. If all goes well, Critterz will be screened at the Cannes Film Festival in May next year.
