Google Sued for Reduced Web Traffic Since Google AI Overviews Introduced in Search

Google has already introduced the AI Overviews feature on their search results page, where it displays a summary of short answers related to a search. This function has been introduced since last year, making it easier for users to get answers to something they are looking for without having to open a web page or a link.

Although this is convenient for users, it is not very popular with content publishers. Most recently, in the United States, publisher Penske Media has filed a lawsuit against Google, saying that the feature is affecting traffic on their website.

What's more, since Google displays summaries or excerpts from related websites on the Google search page, users no longer need to open the relevant page.

Penske Media has a number of titles under them, including Billboard, Variety and has invested in Vox Media. Penske Media also said that the impact of the reduced traffic has also affected their income through the sale of affiliate links.

Previously, Google has said that many people like the Google AI Overviews feature, while they still send billions of clicks to web links from search pages. Apart from that, this year, Google has also started introducing the Google AI Mode feature in search.
