Production of vehicles under the Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) umbrella has been halted in the United Kingdom for the past three weeks due to a cyber attack. The attack was detected at the end of August with factory operations halted earlier this month to prevent it from spreading. The process of restoring operations is still underway with JLR saying operations will be halted until September 24.
JLR is the UK's largest vehicle manufacturer and the government is currently working with the company to see the impact of the shutdown on the supply chain involving more than 100,000 employees. Meanwhile, three JLR production plants that cannot operate have caused around 33,000 staff to be ordered to not come to work.
There is concern that if operations continue to be affected, the company will have to lay off workers to reduce losses. Although Jaguar Land Rover is an automotive brand synonymous with luxury, the company's fortunes are currently somewhat uncertain. It was sold to Ford before being sold to the Tata Group. Competition from Chinese companies and delays in offering EV models have caused sales to decline year after year.
