Nikon ZR Launched – 6K Full Frame Camera in Collaboration with RED

Nikon has launched the Nikon ZR as the first model in the Z CINEMA series developed in collaboration with RED Digital Cinema. The camera can record up to 6K resolution and uses RED color technology to produce high-quality cinematic images.

The Nikon ZR features a 24.5MP partially stacked full-frame sensor that supports 6K recording at 60fps in R3D NE (Nikon Edition), N-RAW and ProRes RAW formats. It also records 4K at 120fps and FHD up to 240fps for smooth, high-quality slow motion.

The camera uses AI-based autofocus, is equipped with a 5-axis image stabilizer and supports Frame.io integration for uploading footage directly to the cloud. It can record 32-bit float audio via a built-in microphone that supports five recording patterns including binaural and omnidirectional. It also offers base ISOs of 800 and 6400 while recording in R3D NE format allows full ISO adjustment during editing just like REDCODE RAW.

The Nikon ZR comes with a 4-inch LCD screen (1280 x 800 pixels) and a maximum brightness of 1000 nits. It is also designed without an EVF and a fan with a compact design weighing approximately 540 grams. The Nikon ZR will go on sale in late October 2025 for US$2,199.95 (~RM9,262) for the body only.
