Only iPhone 17 Pro Equipped with USB 3 With iPhone 17 and Air Still USB 2

The four iPhone 17 models were launched this morning with the new Apple A19 and A19 Pro chips. Many would have expected that because the chips are more powerful, the devices would share many of the same features. But when looking at the full specifications of the iPhone 17 Pro, 17 Pro Max, 17 and Air today, we realized that there was one feature that was quite disappointing.

Only the iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max are equipped with a USB-C port with USB-3 speeds. USB-3 supports data transfers of up to 10 GB/s allowing video recording directly to an external SSD. The iPhone Air and iPhone 7 still use USB-2 which supports a slow 480 MB/s transfer. On the iPhone 17 we understand this because it is the base model.

But the iPhone Air is a device with the Apple A19 Pro and the starting price is RM4999 each. The lack of USB-3 support is disappointing. For those who really want a flagship device with fast data transfers, your only choice this year is the iPhone 17 Pro series.
