Yesterday, the government through the Registration Department announced that in conjunction with the announcement of the BUDI95 targeted petrol subsidy system to be launched on September 30, the National Registration Department also announced that Malaysians can replace damaged MyKads for free for a limited period.
The government estimates that many Malaysians will want to replace their MyKad identity cards to ensure that they can enjoy the targeted subsidy price. Therefore, the government will extend the operating hours of MyKad replacement counters at the National Registration Department headquarters and also the Urban Transformation Centres nationwide depending on current demand.
That is what Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said, who also said that extending operating hours is something that the NRD often does if there is high demand from the people.
As reported yesterday, the average request for replacing damaged MyKads has increased to 40,000 cards per month this year, compared to 30,000 in the previous year. Starting yesterday, 22 September until 7 October 2025, Malaysians with damaged MyKads can replace them for free during the two-week period. Previously, replacements for damaged MyKads came with a replacement fee of RM10.
