Qualcomm has now officially announced the branding for their upcoming flagship chip, which is named Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. Qualcomm is seen as possibly announcing this branding in advance in an effort to avoid confusion among users with the name used for the chip.
Qualcomm says that although it looks like they are skipping the use of “Gen 4”, this is the fifth generation premium flagship chip under the 8-series, after the Gen 3 and also the Snapdragon 8 Elite before. With this move, it may also show that Qualcomm will use more serial branding and not jump or introduce confusing branding from now on. The “Elite” name is also retained for the flagship and best offerings on their chips.
