Over the past few years, a number of websites have added notification support through web browsers, allowing them to send notifications to users whenever there is an update. Some users have accidentally activated the feature, disrupting their web browsing experience.
Google shared that less than 1% of notifications received by users receive any interaction. The rest are considered annoying or not helpful to users.
In parallel, Google now automatically through the Chrome web browser, will turn off notifications from websites that you do not visit or interact with. Users will be notified when these notifications are turned off - while giving you the option if you want to continue receiving notifications from that website.
This feature has already begun to be tested, and is expected to be widely activated for Chrome users in the near future.
