Goodbye Disney+ Hotstar and welcome to Disney+ as the streaming service's name will officially change on October 9. This is a standardization move since Disney+ Hotstar launched in Malaysia in 2021.
In addition to the name change, the Star hub will also be renamed the Hulu hub from now on, once again aligning it with the Disney+ app offerings overseas. In an email sent to customers, there has been no change in subscription prices. In the United States, prices were only increased two weeks ago.
Despite the app name and platform change, Disney+ content in Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and the Philippines still uses Hotstar's infrastructure. This means that if the app is used outside the four countries above, it will not be accessible to customers.
