Government Plans to Raise Minimum Age Limit for Using Social Media to 16 Years

Recently, the Minister of Communications said that the MCMC will begin holding meetings with social media companies regarding the enforcement of the minimum age limit for using social media. Not only that, now the Minister of Communications also shared that the government plans to raise the minimum age limit for using social media from 13 years to 16 years.

Several matters related to it need to be studied first, especially in terms of technical aspects and feasibility. Raising this age limit is expected to curb social ills among school students.

In addition to social media, the Prime Minister also shared today that the government is looking into banning students under 16 years of age from using smartphones - thus better controlling digital addiction, as well as the negative influence of social media and online games.
