Wikipedia is now sharing via 404media that the number of human users visiting Wikipedia's reference page is decreasing day by day. One of the reasons is that users are getting information that is already available on Wikipedia through AI chatbots.
As many are aware, various AI chatbots have been trained with publicly available Wikipedia articles. This causes various user searches to continue to display Wikipedia article excerpts on their respective chatbots, causing users to visit Wikipedia less and less.
Wikipedia stated that they saw an 8% decrease compared to last year for human visitors.
Wikipedia said that they welcome new methods of disseminating knowledge and information, but chatbots, search engines and social platforms that use Wikipedia content should encourage users to visit the site more, while also further developing the platform and sharing content through it.
The decline in human visitors is also expected to reduce the number of volunteers who improve the content on the platform, as well as reduce contributions to the Wikipedia platform in continuing to support it.
