Meta previously experimented with Facebook Video on TV to make it easier for users to follow video content directly on television screens. Although the offer has been terminated, it is now seen that Meta still has not given up on winning the use of their application on television screens.
Most recently, it was shared that Instagram is considering developing a specific application for television screens. Through it, it will focus on video content, while allowing users to continue to follow various video content published on Instagram, in the living room. This may also indirectly position it as an alternative offering by Meta for television screens, compared to YouTube TV and TikTok TV offerings.
Touching on this also, Instagram Head, Adam Mosseri shared that they will look at the existing Instagram Reels content offering on television screens, and are not interested in licensing any content or sporting events.
Instagram recently shared that they have 3 billion monthly active users, and of course they want to continue to increase their reach through offerings on various other devices on the market.
