Instagram is now filtering content that meets the PG-13 film classification criteria only to Teen Account holders. Through the specifications issued by the MPAA, PG-13 content does not have sexual acts, violent images or images that can disturb the peace. It should be emphasized here that the PG-13 classification in the United States is different from the PG-13 classification in Malaysia which is stricter.
It is another content filtering system from Meta which previously limited Teen Account holders from seeing content produced for adults, the use of tobacco products and also alcohol products. In addition, content such as stunts that can cause injury, excessive vulgar language and showing marijuana smoking devices will also be automatically filtered.
By default, teenage users on Instagram and Facebook will be given a Teen Account. This account can then be monitored by parents and guardians to ensure that children are not exposed to content that is deemed inappropriate for their age.
