Meta Reportedly Wants to Acquire Company Focusing on RISC-V Chip Development – Rivos

Meta is now reported to be acquiring one of the firms that focuses on chip and semiconductor development, called Rivos. Rivos develops chips with the RISC-V architecture, which is an open source architecture, an alternative to what is used by Intel, Arm and AMD.

This move is also seen to allow Meta to develop various chips for internal use as well as products produced by Meta, thus reducing its dependence on external parties to obtain chips and semiconductors.

The chips developed by Rivos are also seen to help in training artificial intelligence models by Meta. Previously, Meta itself was ready to be a customer for Rivos in using their chips.

For now, it has not been announced the value of the acquisition involved for this purpose.
