OpenAI has now said that the restructuring of their new company has been completed, and has also reached a decision with their main shareholder, Microsoft. Through the latest update, Microsoft now has a 27% stake in OpenAI, which is estimated to be worth around $135 billion.
Microsoft was previously one of the earliest investors in the company, namely in January 2023, they announced an investment of around $10 billion. This investment also gave Microsoft early access to the OpenAI model, and allowed them to integrate it into their products under the CoPilot brand.
Through this new agreement, Microsoft will also have access to the OpenAI model until 2032. In addition, under this agreement, Microsoft does not have IP rights to the devices or hardware produced by OpenAI.
In addition, MIcrosoft is also given the freedom to develop their AGI model independently or with other third parties.
