Qualcomm today made a surprise announcement and announced that they will acquire Arduino.
For those of you who don't know, Arduino offers electronic hardware in the form of circuit boards that can be programmed and developed by users according to their needs. Arduino is not only used by developers and enthusiasts, but also used in learning. In addition, it is also the basis for the robotics arena that is now gaining more attention.
With this acquisition, Qualcomm hopes that Arduino will receive more access and attention, and will be used more actively in development, including robotics development. Qualcomm is seen as likely to sell chips to developers who want to commercialize their final results in the future.
This move also shows that Qualcomm wants to further diversify its business and expand the reach of their products, not limited to chips and modems for mobile devices only.
In parallel with the announcement of this acquisition, Qualcomm also said that a new Arduino circuit board will be introduced called Uno Q which comes with a Qualcomm chip on it. This will allow for more powerful project development compared to the current Arduino circuit board on the market.
