Suunto Sues Garmin for Infringing on Its Technology Patents

A few days after we reported that activity tracking platform Strava had sued fitness and health tracker brand Garmin, it was the turn of another fitness tracker brand, Suunto, to sue the company.

The lawsuit was filed in a Texas court, where Suunto claims that Garmin has infringed on five of its tracking technology patents. These include technology related to breathing rate scanning, the design of the device's antenna, the design of the device's frame, and even golf swing tracking.

Like Strava, Suunto claims that devices such as the Garmin Marq, Fenix, Epix, Instinct, Venu, and Forerunner all use this patented technology. And again, like Strava, they are seeking an injunction to ban the sale of these Garmin devices.

Unlike Strava, Suunto appears to have more leverage in their lawsuit because if it is true that Garmin has infringed on these patents, they could be seen as competitors in the same industry.
