Minister of Communications, Fahmi Fadzil has now shared that U Mobile has now stated that the second 5G coverage they have developed has covered 54.9% of the populated areas in Malaysia. This partnership comes after during the last Budget 2026, it was targeted that this second 5G network would reach 80% of the populated areas by the second half of 2026.
Several states are already ready to have wider second 5G network coverage. U Mobile said that Putrajaya has reached 99.7%, Kuala Lumpur 90.9%, Labuan 90.8%, Penang 82.9%, and Selangor 70.9%.
Previously, the government has opened the development of the second 5G network, and U Mobile was awarded a space in the development of the country's second 5G network. This step was taken in an effort to ensure healthy competition, wide coverage and better quality of service. Various other telecommunications companies are still using DNB for their 5G networks, and only U Mobile is currently using their developed infrastructure.
