A few weeks ago, we reported that Amazon would start offering its own satellite internet service, called Amazon Leo, next year. Now, they have revealed details about the service’s offerings, and it will be available not only to general consumers, but also to industrial and corporate sectors.
Amazon is showing off three subscription plans that determine the speed and type of equipment that will be used for the subscriptions. These include the Leo Nano with speeds of up to 100Mbps with a 7×7-inch satellite dish, the Leo Pro with speeds of up to 400Mbps with an 11×11-inch satellite dish, and the Leo Ultra with speeds of up to 1Gbps with a 20x30x1.9-inch satellite dish.
Amazon currently has 150 satellites in orbit around the Earth, with that number expected to increase further when the service launches. With the promise of 1Gbps download speeds and 400Mbps upload speeds, Amazon Leo is arguably the fastest satellite internet service in the world right now.
Amazon Leo is seen as being useful not only for those outside urban areas, but also for those who want to get internet connectivity at sea and in the air for recreational and research purposes.
The registration page for this satellite internet service has also been opened, and interestingly, Malaysia is one of the countries listed. It may be too early to tell, but we hope that it will also be offered here in the future.
For now, the price tag and additional details about the Amazon Leo service are unknown, but it is expected that Amazon will introduce it closer to the launch date.
