The last time the Mac Pro was updated was in June 2023. It has been more than two years since there was a new offering for Apple's most powerful Mac. In a recent report by Mark Gurman at Bloomberg, he said that Apple has no plans to offer a new Mac Pro in the near future.
Instead, the focus is on the Mac Studio alone as their flagship desktop computer offering from now on. When launched, the new Mac Studio model will be equipped with the Apple M5 Ultra chip.
The change in Mac usage among users is seen as a factor why the focus is on the Mac Studio alone from now on. Its compact size allows it to be placed on a desk but at the same time offers better performance than the Mac Pro with a larger frame.
The Mac Pro was once the choice because users wanted to upgrade RAM, SSD and GPU. But with the M series chip, all of these components (except the SSD) are built directly into a single chip, making the Mac Pro no longer necessary.
