The new Steam Machine and Steam Controller were announced early this morning 10 years since the first Steam Machine was launched before being discontinued in 2018. The new Steam Machine is cube-shaped and is designed to not only be used in the living room but can also be used as a desktop computer using the SteamOS 3 operating system.
It is equipped with an AMD Zen 4 6C / 12T chip with speeds up to 4.8 GHz, an AMD RDNA3 GPU with 28CU and 8GB GDDR6 VRAM, 16GB DDR5 memory and up to 1TB NVMe SSD storage. Storage can be expanded using a microSD card. According to Valve, this new generation Steam Machine is six times more powerful than the Steam Deck, allowing it to run AAA games at up to 8K 30p settings.
The console also comes with 2x USB-A 3.2 Gen 1, 2x USB-A 2.0, 1x USB-C 3.2 Gen 2, 1x HDMI 2.0, 1x DisplayPort 1.4, gigabit internet, Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3. On the front there are LED lights that can be modified according to the owner's needs. In the shared video, the front panel of the Steam Machine can also be removed for personal decoration.
The new Steam Controller is a controller that can be used with the Steam Machine, Steam Deck and Steam Frame. It has four face buttons, a d-pad, 2x analog knobs, 2x touch pads, 4x new buttons and 4x buttons on the bottom. It can be tethered using Bluetooth, 2.4GHz and also using the included USB-C cable.
In addition to supporting the haptic system, the new Steam Controller also detects movement through a built-in gyroscope system. The two analog knobs are equipped with TMR switches that avoid the stick drift issue that plagues other controllers. Each Steam Controller is equipped with an 8.39 Wh Li-ion battery that provides up to 35 hours of use on a single charge.
The new Steam Machine and Steam Controller will launch in early 2026 with retail pricing yet to be announced.
