The Blackwell series chips are NVIDIA's most powerful artificial intelligence (AI) chips, offering faster processing capabilities than the Hopper series. Like other NVIDIA chips, after launch they were offered to customers except in China. But President Trump in an interview with the 60 Minutes show yesterday said Blackwell would not be sold to "other people".
According to Trump, the most powerful chips should only be used in the United States. This raises questions about the future of several upcoming central projects that will previously use Blackwell chips. In Malaysia after the NVIDIA GB300 Blackwell Ultra GPU chips in March, YTL confirmed that they will be among the first users at the YTL Green Data Center Campus.
Also last week, NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang announced that Samsung will use 50,000 Blackwell chips in its AI factory that manufactures devices. At the same time, Trump did not rule out that only the less powerful Blackwell chips will be offered to Chinese companies.
NVIDIA's market share in China is now zero after the Chinese government urged local companies not to use its chips but instead switch to users of chips produced by local companies such as Huawei.
