Acer Invests RM40 Million in OPTICON for AIoT Sector Development



Acer is a Taiwanese technology company well known for its computing products, and has entered the consumer electronics sector and a variety of different sectors, such as medical, manufacturing and IoT.


Recently, it was reported that Acer and Esquarre Vision Limited will invest in a Japanese company, OPTOELECTRONICS Co. Ltd. (Opticon) which is known for AIDC or Automatic Identification and Data Capture technology.


Acer and Esquarre Vision Limited will reportedly invest 1,589,419,104 yen and 819,000,000 yen, giving these companies a 38 percent and 20 percent stake respectively. The investment is expected to be completed in early 2026, and is part of Opticon's plan to expand into new markets.


Opticon is a technology company known for developing digital scanning components and hardware such as barcode scanners, mobile computers, shelf printers, etc. With this acquisition, it is expected that Acer wants to further expand their expertise in the AIoT industry together with Esquarre Vision, which is also known for offering AIoT technology in the B2B segment.
