The Apple TV app for Android devices was updated today to bring Google Cast support. When the app is opened, a Cast icon will appear in the top-right corner of the app. This is the first time the Cast feature is supported, as previously, streaming content from an app to a TV was only supported using AirPlay.
To use this new feature, please update the app to the latest version in the Play Store. Although the Apple TV streaming platform (formerly Apple TV+) launched in 2019, it was only available for download on Android phones and tablets in February of this year, with Android TV support coming in 2021.
Because of this limited app support, Apple TV’s subscriber base is lower than Netflix, HBO Max, Prime Video, and Disney+. A recent report by Cloudflare today did not even list Apple TV as one of the top 10 video streaming apps with the highest traffic in 2025.
