Global memory component prices for computers are seen increasing every week due to a shortage of supply and demand from component builders and AI data centers willing to pay multiple times the price for it.
Consumer laptop companies such as Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, Lenovo and others are all expected to raise the price tags of their computer offerings next year due to this issue.
ASUS has been reported by several parties to be looking to start manufacturing their own RAM memory components. This is quite interesting because even though ASUS is a computer builder that has collaborated with various semiconductor chip companies before, they have never manufactured their own components.
This is in contrast to companies such as Acer and Lenovo who also have their own memory brands, but still use memory from companies such as Samsung and Micron. From the reports that show, ASUS wants to develop their own DDR5 and LPDDR5X memory production division.
If true, it is not yet known how they will develop this memory component division. They will need the same expertise as companies like Samsung, SK Hynix and Micron to design the components, as well as large factories to produce the chips.
Collaboration with smaller memory companies is also a possibility, and if ASUS simply wants to reduce the cost of purchasing memory for their own devices, this might be the best move they can make.
There has been no official announcement from ASUS on this matter yet, but it will be interesting to see if ASUS will actually start producing its own memory for their computer devices.
