The Russian Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technologies and Mass Media (Roskomnadzor) has banned Apple's Face Time video calling feature in the country. According to them, Face Time is a communication feature used to organize and carry out terrorist attacks, recruit criminals, and commit fraud and other crimes against Russian citizens.
Apple users in Russia have reported that when they try to answer a Face Time video call, it cannot be connected. If a Face Time call is attempted, the device will display a notification that says "User cannot be reached".
In fact, yesterday Roskomnadzor also banned Roblox from being accessed by users in the country due to alleged use of LBGTQ+ propaganda and also spreading extremist content.
Since the invasion of Ukraine, Russia has blocked various foreign applications. Two years ago, Russia banned civil servants from using Apple devices. This came after the Russian intelligence agency, the FSB, accused Apple of helping the United States spy on devices belonging to Russian civil servants.
