Modern smartphones are now usually equipped with three camera lenses on the back for wide-angle, ultra-wide and telephoto. This increases costs and creates a pandemic of giant camera humps. Yesterday Tecno announced two new camera technologies, namely Freeform Continuum Telephoto and Dual-Mirror Reflect Telephoto, which they say will solve this issue.
Freeform Continuum Telephoto is a zoom technology that allows continuous long-distance zooming to be done through only one sensor. With this technology, the issue of the camera lens changing so that the color of the image is also solved. Two lenses move freely to focus the image. According to Tecno, this allows pictures to be taken at all times and not just at a certain distance.
Dual-Mirror Reflect Telephoto uses a double mirror system to increase the focal length with zoom capabilities said to be comparable to DLSR. This system also allows smaller zoom systems to be used on modern smartphones in line with the trend of producing thinner phones.
Tecno said that the Dual-Mirror Reflect Telephoto technology is ready for use next year but the Freeform Continuum Telephoto still needs time to be refined with Samsung and Largan selected to produce the necessary lenses.
