Meta Freezes Third-Party Horizon OS Headset Development Program

Has the coffin been carried and tears are beginning to flow for the metamesta world under Meta? Today Meta is freezing its third-party VR headset development program using Horizon OS. Almost two years ago, this program was announced with Asus and Lenovo named as the first two companies to release their own headsets.

This program is an effort to increase the number of Horizon OS headsets that have been used only on the Meta Quest headset. Lackluster sales and low user numbers have forced Meta to change its direction from wanting to become the world's largest metamesta company to an artificial intelligence company over the past two years.

The freeze on the project was done after Meta began reducing the number of employees at Reality Labs involved in the VR headset project. Reality Labs' focus is now shifted to the development of smart glasses such as the Meta RayBan AR which will be marketed this year. It is clear that Meta now sees smart glasses with AI as having a brighter future than metamesta.
