When Elon Musk took over the reins of social media platform Twitter, one of the first things he did was change the name of the company and the platform to X.
Officially, the Twitter name is no longer in use, and if you go to the Twitter.com website, it will redirect to X.com. This can be seen as Elon Musk no longer wanting to use the Twitter name for the social media platform.
However, there is a new startup called Operation Bluebird that seems to want to revive the Twitter name by starting their own social media platform. In fact, they have registered the website Twitter.new with the well-known blue bird logo, but now with a slightly different design.
Operation Bluebird recently filed a petition with the US Patent and Trade Office through former Twitter lawyer Stephen Coates who has requested the use of the Twitter name and branding because X Corp (the company behind X) is no longer using the name.
It will be interesting to see whether Operation Bluebird will be allowed to use the Twitter name and branding or not, as Elon Musk probably doesn't want other companies using the name even if he doesn't want to use it himself.
If you're interested, the new Twitter site is already open for registration of interest to register a username on the platform, if it is allowed to operate.
