Power Outage in San Francisco Exposes Robotextensive Weaknesses

Many people think that the weaknesses of self-driving cars are the loss of GPS, bad weather and traffic cones. In San Francisco last weekend, the new Achilles heel of Waymo's self-driving system was discovered and it was a power outage.

A nighttime power outage in San Francisco last weekend caused traffic lights to not work in most areas of the California city. Dozens of Wayno robotextensives continued to fail because they could not continue their journey without traffic lights. As a result, Waymo suspended its taxi service in the Bay Area for more than a day and only resumed operations a few hours ago.

A fire at a Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) power substation caused power outages to more than 130,000 customers on Saturday. The cause of the fire is still unknown but power has since returned to normal.
