Samsung is developing a second Z Fold device for next year with an internal screen with a 4:3 ratio according to an ETNews report. This is to compete with the iPhone Fold which is predicted to be launched in late 2026. In the report, the Z Fold device will come with a 5.4″ outer screen and a 7.6″ foldable inner screen which makes the device look more boxy.
This is a design similar to the first Oppo Find N and Huawei Pura X which both have strange screen ratios. This design was probably chosen to give more options to users and solve the issue of the outer screen being taller than it is wide.
The current phone market is still dominated by smaller and easier to use Z Flip-type devices because they are lightweight. If this ETNews report comes true, it seems more like Samsung does not want to fall behind in Apple's footsteps when they have been comfortable offering the Z Fold and Z Flip models to the market. Only recently did they offer the Z Trifold as their third foldable device design.
