Several billionaires today have their own rocket companies focused on space exploration, including Jeff Bezos with Blue Origin, while Elon Musk through Space X. Most recently, Sam Altman, who became popular as the main leader of OpenAI, is now seen wanting to have his own rocket company.
According to a WSJ report, Sam Altman has considered investing in or taking over rocket company Stoke Space. So far, no transaction has taken place between the two parties.
One of the reasons Sam Altman is said to be interested in acquiring a rocket company is in an effort to develop data centers in space. Several companies have begun looking at the development of data centers in space, in an effort to continue to obtain energy to power them, and at the same time have support to cool them. The development of artificial intelligence is seen to require a high quantity of energy, including using a lot of water to cool them. This makes the development of data centers in space one of the methods to overcome this issue.
At present, it is not known whether Sam Altman is still continuing the discussions, or has also approached other airlines with the same intention.
