SK Hynix is one of two semiconductor chip giants that will continue to supply memory components to various sectors, including consumers, after Micron recently said that it will stop producing memory components for Crucial next year.
It was reported that SK Hynix recently held a closed-door meeting and said that the supply of DDR RAM memory components for the consumer group will face a low supply problem for a relatively long time, at least until 2028.
The types of memory that will be affected by this shortage include DDR5/DDR4, GDDR6/GDDR7 and LPDDR5x/LPDDR6 memory, all of which are required for desktop computers, laptops and even graphics cards.
Interestingly, SK Hynix also reportedly said that memory components such as HBM and SOCAMM, which are commonly used in data center-class processing accelerator components and artificial intelligence, will receive additional production capacity, and will not be affected by this limited supply issue.
SK Hynix also appears to be focusing on producing components for data centers, especially since AI companies are now willing to spend a lot of money on these components compared to the consumer market which on average does not show as high a return as what data center component manufacturers offer.
