Uber and Lyft will test Baidu's robotexy technology in the United Kingdom starting in 2026. In an announcement made early this morning, Uber and Lyft said that the Appollo Go RT6 self-driving technology will be used on London roads in H1 2026. This is the same robotexy model that Baidu wanted to offer to the Malaysian market before.
The service in London will be offered as a pilot test only first with plans to offer commercial services before the end of 2026. The Appollo Go RT6 is a sixth-generation self-driving vehicle developed by Baidu. It is designed without a steering wheel and operates without a human driver as it has Level 4 self-driving capabilities.
Each battery-powered RT6 is equipped with 38 sensors including 8 LiDAR, 6 mmWave radar, 12 ultrasonic radar and 12 cameras allowing it to see its surroundings while operating. In China, each vehicle is built at a cost of just RMB 250,000 (~RM 145,000) each.
