The era of "halal" electronic cigarette smoking or vaping in Malaysia will end in 2026 with Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad insisting that this issue is no longer "if" but "when" it will be implemented. According to him, vaping will be banned by the middle of the year or the end of next year.
The drastic step of banning the sale of vaping is due to concerns about vape liquids mixed with illegal substances such as ketamine, MDMA, marijuana and amphetamine. Seizures of vaping containing these illegal drugs are increasing while videos of accidents occurring after consumption via vaping are increasingly viral this year.
The issue that will become clear in the future is why vaping is banned but the government's efforts to ban tobacco users through the GEG initiative have previously been successfully defeated. Both have a negative impact on health, especially cardiovascular diseases.
