Meta will enable ad serving on Threads to all global users starting next week. Last year, it was tested in countries like the United States and Japan, and was also briefly enabled in Malaysia for a few weeks before being discontinued. Advertising will finally be enabled for all more than two years after the platform launched in July 2023.
The “sponsored” tag will appear on ad content on Threads to differentiate it from user-generated content. For advertising purposes, Threads uses Meta’s advertising system, which allows users to display ads across platforms, including Facebook and Instagram.
Ad formats offered are static images, videos, carousels, catalogs and links to device app stores. This week saw Threads have a higher user count than X on the smartphone app with over 141.5 million daily active users (DAU). If this continues, Threads will be another big source of revenue for Meta.
