Boston Dynamics Atlas Robot Launched – Hyundai and Google DeepMind First Users

After several years of being shown as a humanoid robot testing platform, Boston Dynamics this morning announced that production of the Boston Dynamics Atlas robot has begun. Simultaneously with its launch, Atlas was confirmed to be used on Hyundai’s factory floor for car production and at Google DeepMind for testing. It will then be used by other customers starting in 2027.

The partnership between Boston Dynamics and Google DeepMind is being carried out to enable humanoid robots to complete a variety of industrial tasks and is expected to be a driver of manufacturing transformation, starting in the automotive industry. Among the things that will be done is to integrate Gemini Robotics’ model into the real world.

Each Atlas has 56 degrees of freedom, the ability to perform full rotation, reach up to 2.3M, and lift weights up to 50kg. It is also waterproof and can operate in a temperature range of -20° to 40° C. To ensure it is safe to use on the factory floor, it has the ability to detect people and fence off operating areas.
