ChatGPT is accessed by hundreds of millions of users every month and students use it as a tool to write school essays. But there is a more serious issue ChatGPT is being used to have conversations that are not appropriate for their age, which has led to OpenAI being sued. Today OpenAI announced that ChatGPT will guess the age of users in European Union (EU) countries for safety purposes.
When ChatGPT feels that a user is under 18, it will activate additional safety settings. This will restrict access to sensitive content and certain types of interactions.
Among the things that will be filtered are violent content, viral challenges that can encourage risky or dangerous behavior, sexual content, content that promotes extreme beauty standards, unhealthy diets or body shaming.
ChatGPT will predict the user's real age based on the general topics discussed and the time ChatGPT is used. If you are an adult user but are detected as a minor, real age verification must be done through the Persona feature which requires uploading a government-issued ID card.
