News about the integration of MyDigitalID into the MyNISSe application has caused discomfort among users.
Many are concerned about the use of the MyBorderPass and MyDigital ID applications for immigration clearance purposes via QR code automatic gates. Some also question why there should be multiple applications for seemingly similar functions.
This matter has caught the attention of the Malaysian Immigration Department (JIM) which issued an official statement to avoid confusion. JIM also explained the differences between the three applications.
Firstly, MyNISSe was developed as a single platform to consolidate all Malaysian immigration affairs and services under one application. It is part of the department's transformation initiative through the NIISe project which will gradually replace the existing system.
Next, MyBorderPass functions as an interim solution through a concept test to reduce congestion at the country's main entry points. It uses selected QR code automatic gates with an immediate assistance approach, ensuring smooth border operations.
Meanwhile, MyDigital ID is a digital identity platform that functions as a single sign-on mechanism for various government services, including MyNISSe.
JIM stressed that there is no duplication of applications as claimed. The current implementation is only a temporary transitional phase to allow the development of MyNISSe to be fully implemented without affecting the smooth operation of the country's entry points. At the same time, JIM also announced that its services will continue to be improved with the use of AI to ensure more efficient operations in the future.
