Intel and Samsung's SmartPower HDR Technology Reduces Battery Consumption by Up to 22%

A few months ago, we reported that Intel and BOE had collaborated to introduce a SmartPower HDR color processing control technology that helps to use this color processing technology while using a lower amount of electricity.

At the CES 2026 event, Samsung also issued a statement saying that Samsung Display would also collaborate with Intel to produce OLED screen displays that can do the same.

SPHDR will analyze the brightness rate of each video frame produced, and depending on the need, will automatically increase and decrease the brightness value of the display, and this ability is seen to help save electricity consumption by 22 percent, giving laptop users a longer battery life.

This technology will be combined with Intel Core Ultra Series 3 processor chips and the integrated graphics processing chip used with them. This chip component will use a special algorithm to set the amount of voltage required and will communicate with the timer on the display to adjust power consumption.

Another advantage shown through this combination is the more comprehensive use of HDR technology, not only in content, but in operating systems that may not support it well.

This generally shows that all, if not most laptops that come with the Intel Core Ultra Series 3 processor series will come with SPHDR technology soon.
