Masjidil Haram Now Equipped with a Smart System to Control the Number of Pilgrims

Welcoming and performing the Ramadan fasting worship in Makkah and Madinah must be the dream of every Muslim. Those memories are also always missed by those who have experienced it. However, with the increasing number of pilgrims, close monitoring is very necessary for the safety of all.

Most recently, Saudi Arabia introduced a smart counting system at Masjidil Haram. This system functions to count the number of pilgrims entering and exiting through the mosque doors in real time. As a result, it can monitor the density of pilgrims, identify bottlenecks and manage the movement of pilgrims more safely.

The implementation of this system is considered important because pilgrims consist of various age groups. With this technology, field teams can make decisions faster based on data, thus avoiding congestion and ensuring the smooth flow of worship.

The importance of this system is also increasing during Ramadan, especially during the crowded Tarawih prayers. It will also play a major role during the Hajj season when millions of pilgrims attend simultaneously.
