The smart glasses market is currently dominated by Meta in collaboration with EssilorLuxottica. Ray-Ban Meta proved that there was a demand for smart glasses with built-in cameras and speakers, which forced Google, Samsung, Xiaomi and later Apple to offer similar products. But Meta and EssilorLuxottica have been sued in the United States for allegedly infringing on Solos Technology's smart glasses patents.
Solos Technology claims that five of their smart glasses technology patents were used without permission by Meta and EssilorLuxottica. The patents are for audio, sensors, processing and various features on a pair of smart glasses.
The Hong Kong-based company is seeking billions of dollars in damages for copyright infringement. This is because the smart glasses market is expected to reach tens of billions by 2023.
In the lawsuit filed, Solos Technology also claims that Meta has studied Solos' products, cited Solos' patents, interacted with inventors and obtained Solos' engineering information before launching the Ray-Ban Meta in 2021.
