Users of the Meta platform have access to artificial intelligence (AI) characters powered by Meta AI. But late last week, Meta announced that the AI character feature is now no longer accessible to teen and minor users. The ban is only temporary while Meta develops a new version of the AI character that is safer for minors to use.
The feature now detects the age of the user and if it is found that they are underage, the AI character feature will no longer be accessible as before. In addition, if teens try to hide with a fake birth date, the real age detection system that was introduced earlier will also block access immediately. Teens, however, can still access other features under the Meta AI umbrella.
The announcement came as Meta was investigated by several states in the United States and also faced a lawsuit by parents because the AI character was found to have conversations that were inappropriate for users last year.
