PLUS Begins Pilot Trial for Plate Number Recognition for Toll Payments

Today, we are ready to see the implementation of plate number recognition support at a number of vehicle parking lots, where it will recognize the plate number when entering, and then display the charge to be paid when the plate number is scanned when leaving. With a similar concept, PLUS has now begun a pilot project using plate number recognition technology for toll payments.

PLUS is currently conducting a pilot trial on the Hutan Kampung-Sungai Dua stretch, and only involves private vehicles for now. Under this implementation, users are no longer tied to a specific special lane, but can instead enter and exit according to any toll lane at nine toll plazas, namely Hutan Kampung, Alor Setar Utara, Alor Setar Selatan, Pendang, Gurun, Sungai Petani Utara, Sungai Petani Selatan, Bertam and Sungai Dua.

To use this system, users first need to download the JustGO Malaysia application and register their vehicle, as well as link their payment method through it.

This pilot project is expected to be the starting point for the implementation of barrier-free toll plazas in the near future, thus reducing congestion at toll plazas. However, for the duration of this pilot project, the toll barriers will be maintained.
