The incident of Grok's artificial intelligence (AI) generating indecent images late last year has drawn global attention, with Malaysia, India, the UK, and France launching investigations into the alleged violation of online privacy laws in those countries by Grok's actions.
A short while ago, the feature that instructed Grok to change images on X was suddenly disabled for regular X users. If instructed, Grok issued an output saying that the feature would only be available to paid X Premium customers. There is no timeline for when it will be restored and it depends on policy changes at X. The feature was discontinued shortly after the European Commission (EC) ordered xAI to keep all chat logs so that investigations could be conducted.
The image generation feature was temporarily disabled by Grok a week ago, with all generated images deleted after it caused controversy. But after India and Malaysia launched investigations, it was reactivated and images containing obscene elements were again being generated, including those featuring minors.
