For those who have noticed, Spotify is now not just a place to listen to audio, but has also been given a message function (Messages) for communication purposes. After receiving an encouraging response, the feature has been updated with two new features, namely Listening Activity and Request to Jam.
Listening Activity is a feature that allows users to display the music they are listening to to friends or family who have been connected via Messages. If the user is no longer listening, the last song played will be displayed instead. This activity can only be seen by contacts who have been connected and users always have full control to activate or deactivate it at any time.
Meanwhile, Request to Jam makes it easy for users to turn the music listening experience into an experience with contacts. Through Request to Jam, Premium users can invite friends or contacts to join a listening session simultaneously, add songs to a shared list, and interact via messages while the music is playing.
Listening Activity can be used by all users via Messages while Request to Jam can be joined by free users when invited by Premium users. Both features are being offered on iOS and Android versions in phases, and are expected to be fully available by early February 2026.
