A few days ago we reported on the sales ban on computer products from device manufacturers Acer and ASUS in Germany, after they were found to have infringed Nokia's patent for the HEVC video codec and failed to pay royalties for the use.
Following the incident, both companies have reportedly shut down their websites and online stores for Germany, meaning that residents in the country are not only unable to buy new computers, but also unable to obtain new software updates to update their computers.
To make matters worse, access to Acer and ASUS websites from abroad has also been blocked, and the use of a VPN to connect from abroad is required to download these updates.
However, ASUS specifically said that their customer service will operate as usual to provide customers with any assistance if they encounter issues with their computers. ASUS will also appeal to allow their products to be sold again in the country.
